[edit] Life

Shomat joined the Guild of Writers and was with them until he became King of D'ni at the age of 44 when he was forced to leave the Guild to take on his new position. Despite this Shomat continued to study The Art by hiring private mentors. Later on, people would use his unusual study methods as the reason for his different views on The Art and the position of the D'ni.

While Shomat's father, Ailesh was alive, Shomat exhibited beliefs extremely similar to his father's. However upon reaching the throne, Shomat was quick to order the construction of a palace, something his father had avoided doing. Shomat's palace was completed in 347 DE (7309 BC), and rather then be simple, it had ornate gardens which was controversial at the time.

Along with having private gardens in the D'ni city, Shomat also had garden Ages written and placed within his palace. It was rumored that the garden Ages had been wiped of any natives to allow Shomat to relax easier. Unlike his father, Shomat believed that the Ages should serve D'ni and often spoke of this opinion publicly.

Due to Shomat's controversial beliefs, a prophetess was given to Shomat in 400 DE (7256 BC) to offer him religious councel about Yahvo. It was believed by most that afterwards Shomat's reign became a better one, and it began a tradition of Kings having prophetesses to guide them. The prophetess encouraged Shomat to choose a heir among the children of one of his close friends, which he did.

[edit] Family

Shomat was the third son of Ailesh and didn't get along with his brothers. In 347 DE (7309 BC) when he moved into his palace, Shomat's brothers did not join him. Some stories say they refused while other say that they were not invited. Either way the events only furthered the tensions between Shomat and his two brothers. Shomat's brothers later disappeared in 387 DE (7269 BC) and it was believed that Shomat wrote two Death Books and killed his brothers with them.

Shomat's own children were considered out of control by his contemporaries and as a result were not chosen to be Shomat's successor.

[edit] Legend

According to later legend, Shomat's first garden Age was inhabited by intelligent creatures with a city and armies. He asked his brothers to kill the inhabitants, but they instead decided to use the creatures to overthrow Shomat. When they told him the creatures were dead, he rewarded them with an apparent garden Age that was in fact a Death Book. He then had Grand Master Kenri alter the Age to eliminate its inhabitants.
