The Narayani Collective is a discussion board dedicated to the study of the age of Narayan. This community researches and speculates on all aspects of Narayani civilization, society, history, language, culture, tradition, as well as the Age itself. Members often partake in the online role-playing of Narayani life, along with writing various literary works about Myst and Narayan and drawing fanart pertaining to these topics.
Recent fan fiction by members of the site include "Whacked" by Mystie and "Locusani: Saavedro's Tale" by Mystress.

[edit] Work on Narani
Recently, several members of the Narayani Collective have been working to recreate the age's language. Mystie, a frequent visitor and language expert, has created a written form that is very similar to growing vines. This format, playing off of a key component of Narayani society, is a phonetic, flowing and organic script similar to D'ni. The letters shoot off from a central line, and the appropriate letter is dictated by their position (either over or under the line). The vowels float either above or below the line, and there are different symbols for those as well. Along with the original letters, there are several letters that are not used in Narani. Because the language is meant to be a phonetic one, these symbols are for the ease of writing English in the script (Naringlish, for short).
The same group of members is also attempting to rebuild the spoken language. They have very little to go on, only having a few spoken samples of it available (found in three of the tracks on the Myst III: Exile soundtrack).
[edit] Culture of the Collective
Within the Collective, as it is known by members, are several in-jokes, usually relating to RP characters or jokes concerning the language and culture of Narayan. One recurring in-joke is a pun on the Narayani word "soule", which translates as both "heart" and "soul". Another common joke, which plays off of Saavedro's hammer, is the idea that all the members have hammers and frequently hit each other with them. As a welcoming ritual, members will "throw puffer spores" as a form of confetti. Saavedro is commonly referred to as well, as are several of his lines and the events of Myst III: Exile.
One particularly well-known in-joke among Collective members is the Pink and Green Song, playing off of the juxtaposition of Narayan's green lattice trees with its pink sky. The song is set to the tune of "In The Hall of the Mountain King" by Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. It is well-known for its recurring line of "Narayani pink and green, pink and green, pink and green / Narayani pink and green and pink and green and pink!" Typing a few lines of the song in any thread at the Collective results in a multitude of responses from many members.

The Narayani Collective has a very popular role-playing game, in which the members can engage in various storylines concerning what happens in Narayan after the civil war. The plots can get quite dramatic and heated, often spiraling into much larger tales than were expected.
RPG characters are often used as comic foils elsewhere on the site, sometimes to the point of becoming an in-joke among itself.
