Myst was an island Age written by Anna to serve as a home for Atrus, Catherine and herself. Here, Atrus built his library and a variety of puzzle-guarded places of protection for his books. Myst was also where Sirrus and Achenar were born as well as where Anna was buried.

[edit] History
The first structure that was built on the island was a wooden cabin (presumably the one that later hosted the heating device). It served as the home of Atrus, Catherine, and Anna until a more permanent structure could be completed.
After Sirrus and Achenar destroyed most of the library's books and were trapped in their prison Ages, Atrus and Catherine abandoned Myst because of the painful memories it held for them, and the structures of the island fell into decay. They then moved to an Age called Chroma'agana.
Two hundred years later, Esher placed his trap for the tablet in the library, but failed to obtain it. At this time, the island was in ruins and no devices were operational.
On November 5, 2007 (Leevofo 12, 9663), a bahro placed a linking book to Myst in K'veer on the mosaic of Ri'neref. The only accessible part is the library. The secret passage to the rotating tower cannot be opened and the main door is blocked, and the two panels that control them are smashed. The tower-rotating map of Myst does not work either; it shows the four places of protection but the tower rotation does not work. It is not clear if the island itself has been changed at all.
[edit] Landscape
Myst Island is small, mostly covered in grass and a forest of pine trees, with various buildings built around the island. A smaller island can be found on one end of the island, on which a clock tower has been built. The sea is vast and empty with no other islands visible. Along the harbor, a wooden dock has been built, along which a ship has been moored. The library of Atrus is at the top of a hill, a short distance from the dock, and in front of a small mountain on which the tower is built. The library is also thought to contain the living quarters of Atrus and Catherine and their sons. Gulls can be seen in the distance, and butterflies can be found in the forest.
In more recent times, the island appears to have eroded, with many of the buildings in ruins, the trees more rugged, and the grass overgrown.
[edit] Landmarks
- The library once contained several of Atrus's Linking Books and journals, but after most of them were pillaged and burned by Sirrus and Achenar, Atrus moved the surviving Linking Books to four places of protection. The library also holds Sirrus and Achenar's respective Prison Books and an electric map that controls the rotating tower.
- The rotating tower can be accessed via a hidden passage in the library, and shows the locations of the four places of protection, as well as valuable clues to unlocking said places.
- The Linking Point of the Stranger's Myst Linking Book is on the dock. Next to the dock is a submerged ship that is the place of protection for the Linking Book to Stoneship. The dock also leads to the imager room.
- The clocktower was built on a small islet on the coast of Myst. The gear bridge that connected the clock tower to the main island could only appear when the clock face was set to a certain time.
- The planetarium was built next to the library and served to see constellations at any given date and time.
- The giant gears are, as titled, a set of oversized gears in a hill on Myst Island by the dock. It unlocks the place of protection for the Linking Book to Mechanical.
- The spaceship is the place of protection for the Linking Book to Selenitic. It can only be unlocked when sufficient electric power is sent to it by the generator in the forest.
- In the woods of Myst is a small wooden cottage that has a furnace that powers the elevator tree, the place of protection for the Linking Book to Channelwood.
- A concealed door on the side of the dock leads to an underground room with an electronic imager that holds Atrus's message to Catherine about his suspicion of his sons' treachery. It also can display a three-dimensional map of Myst Island.
