The mangree is a social, monkey-like creature that is native to the Age of Haven. Mangrees are very intelligent and have a symbolic system of vocal communication. Mangrees used this language to coordinate their defenses against predators, particularly the reptilian camoudile.
Achenar studied the mangree language and developed a written system for recording it. Mangree vocalizations are extremely difficult for humans to reproduce so Achenar manufactured a series of horns that were turned to produce tones similar to mangree calls.
After many years of living with the mangrees and sketching them, Achenar was shocked to discover that the mangrees had given him a name. This and other factors made him decide to build his nest home in the south side of Haven.
