This page contains several guidelines for writing wiki pages for MYSTlore.

Contents

[edit] General page format

[edit] Titling

A title should be unambiguous and in official/formal language, rather than a colloquialism.

Because people frequently give slightly different names to one and the same subject (or use informal terms), or perhaps try and use abbreviations, redirects can be used and are in fact encouraged. For an abbreviation, add category to the page. For misspellings, add , especially when a web search finds frequent mention of the mistake.

[edit] Summary

The first paragraph of a page should contain a succinct summary of the subject. The first occurrence of the subject should be enclosed in five apostrophes for emphasis. Do not start pages with a header. For example:

A Journey cloth is a cloth found in the ages Yeesha chooses for her Journey.

becomes:

A Journey cloth is a cloth found in the ages Yeesha chooses for her Journey.

Or:

Gehn is Atrus' father, son of Aitrus and Anna. He was married to Keta.

which becomes:

Gehn is Atrus' father, son of Aitrus and Anna. He was married to Keta.

[edit] Emphasis

A term or phrase can be enclosed in apostrophes for emphasis. With two apostrophes, it becomes italic, and with three, bold. For example:

The wahrk gallows depicted in Riven: The Sequel to Myst

becomes:

The wahrk gallows depicted in Riven: The Sequel to Myst

While a name or anything to be stressed should be in italics, a term should be in bold instead. This distinction is not always easy to make, but the above should give a good example. For instance, the official names of organizations and products should be bold.

[edit] Perspective

By default, pages in the normal article namespace are considered to be written in an IC perspective. (This means, for example, that references to the games are not allowed, except in an OOC section.)

[edit] Internal links

Link as many words as possible, but try not to link the same word more than once, unless they are far away from each other.

[edit] Sections

Large pages should be divided into sections. After at most a handful of paragraphs, splitting up a piece of text into multiple sections is warranted.

[edit] Appearances

Appearances sections should start with ===Featured=== or ===References=== if that is the only section in the page (see Ni'ediren and Everdunes). There should be two =s if there are other sections in the article (see Eder Gira).

If something both is mentioned in one place and is featured in another, make an Appearances section with Featured and References subsections (see Atrus).

[edit] Age page format

Large age pages should be divided into the following sections:

 • Overview: What makes this age special?
 • Geography: What does the age look like?
 • History: When was the age written? What important events occurred? When was it restored?

[edit] Miscellaneous

Do not sign pages you create. If people want to know who wrote a certain page they can view the history instead (click on the "history" tab at the top).

New pages should have a "stub" template; append "stub" to the end of the page.

This article is a stub. If you have anything to add, please try and expand it. All stubsWorking on stubs
