MYSTlore has a Walkthrough namespace. Pages in this namespace pertain to information used to solve Ages.

[edit] Editors

There are several guidelines editors should follow:

  • When a corresponding page exists in the default namespace, use the {{walkthrough-link}} template to link from there to the walkthrough, with the walkthrough page's name (without the namespace prefix) as the parameter. For example, Spy Room has a template of {{walkthrough-link|Spy Room}}, creating a link to Walkthrough:Spy Room.
  • For consistency (which helps visitors), walkthroughs should follow a certain fixed structure.
    • An overview page (example) should introduce the visitor to the scope of that particular walkthrough, giving a brief synopsis of the area or story arc (while, of course, linking to an article in the main page for more detail), as well as a concrete list of puzzles, in the order of which they have to be solved (if multiple orders are possible, decide for one, but do not hesitate to mention alternatives). This page must be in the walkthrough overviews category.
    • Each puzzle should have a link to a subpage representing this puzzle. The link should have a right-pointing arrow (→), and, next to it, a brief explanation of what will be accomplished within the subpage.
    • These subpages are named merely after a number. You could do redirects if you want to give the particular subpages a more appropriate title, but a number should always be an alternative (if not the default).
    • The subpages also have, on their top and bottom, each a link with an up-pointing arrow (↑) back to the overview. Often, you'll want to link from one subpage to another as well, to ease navigation.
    • Both the overview page, as well as all subpages, should have a {{walkthrough namespace}} template at their top, giving visitors a brief explanation, as well as an appropriate warning.
  • A walkthrough should be written in the scope of an Age, a notable room or place within the Age (e.g., the Spy Room) or a major story arc (e.g., you could have a walkthrough for all of Yeesha's journey cloths), even when that arc spans multiple Ages, but never for an entire game.
  • Avoid using OOC language when writing the walkthrough. For example:
    • Address persons with "you" or "the explorers", but not "the players".
    • Instead of bluntly calling something a game's bug, name it a "strange behavior".
    • Don't talk about "what's on screen" but "what you can see".
  • Don't just tell explorers to do something; explain to them why as well, and how they could have figured it out on their own, so they feel that they have learnt something.
  • Constantly encourage explorers to try and find solutions on their own. Do give them straight instructions where due, but also do give them a chance to take a break from reading your article, and from making discoveries themselves.
  • Where applicable, use screenshots when graphical descriptions would be significantly more complicated.

[edit] Visitors

If we offer a walkthrough for something, we will typically link to its overview from the main article. For example, Spy Room has a link to Walkthrough:Spy Room. You can also refer to the list of walkthrough overviews.

The overview should give you a good summary of the challenges faced in a particular area (such as an Age) or context (such as a story arc), as well as typically how to get there to begin with.
