Ink

The Ink (lem^{[?] (lem)}) used to write Descriptive and Linking Books by the D'ni had to be made with a certain secret formula and process, known only by the Guild of Ink Makers.

Gehn seems to have uncovered the secret while studying D'ni documents in the Cavern and must have taught it to Atrus.

Gehn also taught the Rivenese people the formula of ink-making in his attempt to revive the D'ni civilization and the Art. A prayer in the Gate Room says the following:

Our lord Gehn has blessed us by giving to us the formula to make the ink.

We thank our lord for the [opportunity (?)] of producing the ink he needs.

It is thought a D'ni proverb, that part of the ingredients of that special Ink was found in Scarab Beetles:

A scarab is captured; ink is released.

and for that reason, Gehn wrote beetles in Riven.
