The cerpatee is an enormous aquatic predator native to Haven.
Achenar hunted the cerpatee to extinction during the first five years of his exile there; he mentions his battles with the beast multiple times in his journals. He went about hunting the two remaining cerpatee by capturing the female and using it as bait for the male. He later fears that he may have hunted down the karnaks' main predator, and in doing so, thrown Haven's ecosystem off balance.
Cerpatees may still exist, given the low population on the island when Achenar arrived and the vastness of the age.
