Not to be confused with relyimah, bahro (baro[?] (beast-people)) is a Terahnee word that refers to the ahrotahntee in general. It has been used more specifically by Yeesha to refer to an ancient non-human species that was enslaved by the D'ni (although the exact nature of their enslavement is unclear). The Bahro have magnificent powers over time and nature.

[edit] Origin

The origin of the Bahro is still unclear, although the Age of Noloben has been described as their home. It is evident that the Bahro possess a greater knowledge of the Art, or their version of it, than the D'ni.

Due to an inherent fear they will not go anywhere near snakes or even snake-like symbols. It is believed that the snake's venom paralyzes their linking abilities.

The Bahro are responsible for the painting of the glyphs in the Eder Kemo Age[1]. These are known as the Bahro Glyphs which can also be seen in the pipe in Teledahn, near the Volcano, and the Bahro Caves.

Several rumours about Bahro sightings in Bevin have been circulating in March. Around the 12th, a KI picture showing a lonely Bahro in Bevin's book room surfaced, proving the rumors to be true.

Because the term "bahro" could be considered derogatory, some explorers have proposed the alternative and more neutral vahkhro, for "linking people".

[edit] Freedom

Since 2003 (9658), Yeesha has guided explorers on a journey to transfer pillars to Bahro Caves in Rudenna, a process she describes as returning the Bahro to D'ni.

The legendary Tablet was used by the D'ni to enslave them for over 10,000 years. Among the carvings on the Tablet, some depict linking books, an obvious D'ni icon, yet the Tablet itself seems to be of Bahro technology. In 2005 (9660), the Bahro were set free when Dr. Watson unlocked the Tablet and gave it to the Bahro themselves, giving them control over their own destiny[2].

[edit] Civil War

On May 23, 2007 (Leefo 25, 9663), Douglas Sharper reported that he found himself in the middle of a Bahro civil war in Negilahn, apparently between two factions' moral values at odds with each other. The "evil" faction has been called Bahronoir by Tweek. Alternatively, K'laamas suggested Bahro Shoraht for the "peaceful" faction to correspond with Yeesha's use of Bahro Nekisahl for the hostile Bahro.

Yeesha confirmed that the bahro nekisahl are led by a bahro with a large patch of skin missing from his shoulder. The skin was taken by Esher during torture.

[edit] Speculation

As concrete information about the Bahro is lacking, speculation has flourished. Did the D'ni and the Bahro once coexist on Garternay? Were the Bahro the original inhabitants of the cavern? Some theorize that the Bahro are in fact highly evolved descendants of the scarab beetle because of their insect like similarities, and their internal organic connection to the fabric of time/space, i.e: the ink. The beetles are the source of the ink which enables inter dimensional travel, and the Bahro seem capable of linking at will through the use of their own bodies.

Nevertheless, it seems fairly evident that the Bahro at some point or another in the past, had attained a deeper knowledge of the Art and thus the D'ni (presumably because of this) decided to enslave them, possibly because they resented that a race of beast like creatures had become superior to them in their knowledge of the Art, or possibly from fear of the Bahro's power. Some speculate that the Tablet was in fact a piece of Bahro technology which the D'ni (or Ronay) used to their advantage as a means of enslaving their unique linking abilities. Although the Tablet itself hints towards this, there is no official documentation proving or disproving this theory.
