This page is written from an OOC point of view. Events and elements surrounding the Myst Universe are regarded as fictional.

An avatar is a visual representation of a player.

The term avatar is mostly relevant in Uru and not so much in the Myst games: all Myst games use a first-person perspective, so one's own avatar is never actually visible, although the term could still be used to refer to non-playable characters, such as Yeesha. In Uru, on the other hand, avatars do play a crucial role:

  • the third-person perspective is not only an option, but also the default setting (and even in first-person mode, some movements require temporarily switching to third-person mode)
  • the closet in Relto, and clothing items picked up throughout ages, enable extensive customization of the avatar's appearance in order to either approximate the looks of a person in real life, or create a virtual alternative identity
  • especially relevant in Uru Live, fellow players in Uru are primarily recognized through their avatars (though also through appearing in the KI, via text and voice).
