Ahnonay (ano[?] (ahno) for "water" and nA[?] (nay) for "root") is an Age written by Guild Master Kadish. It was used by him to fool his followers into thinking that he could link through time, thereby reinforcing the claim to being The Grower.
It is unknown how he managed to convince the D'ni that it was Garternay they were linking to when the Age itself was called Ahnonay.

[edit] Geography
The main portion of this Age is situated within a large waterfall, with rocks jutting out. That waterfall is home to a large structure which supports four spheres, three of which represent the D'ni homeworld Garternay as it was, as it is, and as it will be. The fourth sphere, however, was incomplete at the time of D'ni's fall, and contains a ringed platform surrounding a vast statue of Kadish. These spheres would rotate when the last person linked out of Ahnonay, so that they would be presented with a new vista when they linked back in. The fourth sphere is skipped when rotating using the pedestal, presumably as Kadish failed to finish it.
[edit] Spheres
By their most striking topographical feature, the four spheres are:
- Water
- Fog (or Mist)
- Space
- Kadish Statue
Other common naming themes[1] focus on what the spheres represent ("past", "present" and "future" for the first three), other landmarks, such as the crabs and crystals on the first and second sphere, respectively, or simply the numbers "one" through "four".
Water: the first sphere of Ahnonay. In the center: the lifeform counter. |
Fog: Sphere two, with several ning trees visible. |
[edit] Lifeform counter
In the center of the first three spheres is a device that displays the amount of lifeforms in proximity. For the rotation to take place when linking to the Cathedral using the pedestal, there have to be none left; that is, aside from yourself, nobody and nothing animate can be on the island. This includes quabs and ning trees, but excludes terrose trees.
In the third sphere, the counter is broken; the fourth has none.
[edit] Maintenance Sections
Each sphere has a maintenance section between the sphere and the central hub. The access tunnels from the sphere into the maintenance sections are cleverly hidden, designed to be invisible and generally inaccessible to sphere visitors.

[edit] Quab
Named By: official source
Name Source: A play on the word "crab", which the creature resembles.
The quab is a quadruped crustacean animal, pink in color with two largish eyes. It isn't clear what they eat but it appears that it could be the lichen that grows over the rocks in Sphere 1. The creature has been observed scratching at the rock surface with its feet.
The creature seems to be slightly skittish, it will run away when approached often opting to dive back into the waters.
[edit] Terrose
Named By: Tweek
Name Source: The D'ni word ter[?] (ter) for "tree" and "rose" for the colour of the leaves of the plant.
The trees would appear to have strong roots that manage to penetrate the rock surface, whether the water of the age runs through the rock and this is where they get their source of water remains to be seen. Strangely enough the question of the trees' survival is brought into question when the concept of the Age is taken into account. Sphere 1 is in fact a "fake" Age, so it leads us to wonder where the tree get its source of sunlight in order to grow? This could be why the trees are still young-looking despite having approximately 200 years to grow wild. Perhaps the trees do not require sunlight like most of the trees we are used to, unless the whiteness of Sphere 1 acts as a source of false sunlight and the tree has adapted thus..
[edit] Ning tree
Named By: official source
Name Source: lightning
Sphere 2 has plenty of crystal-like lifeforms named ning trees, presumably for their resemblance in shape to trees.
